The Costly Clipper - Axis - AAR D1 1900

Daytime defensive operations are going well. We lost a Hungarian unit in the south but nothing we can't recover from. I, III, and IV battalions of the 219th Artillery Regiment have been putting in work! The units have been critical in slowing the Allies along their two avenues of approach. High command (that's me!) has been working their guns constantly for the last 12 hours in support of AO Rechts and BP Kreis. I haven't had great intel on the location of enemy units operating in BP Kreis so my indirect fire missions have been focused on the southern forests.

These artillery units are the only ones I have issued order to so far. Retreats have been orderly and fortunately few in numbers. Position in Niederheide and Rischden, located in AO Links, had contact within the first hour of the Allied operation and their entrenchments lasted a few hours before being pushed back. The line here is stable and I plan to conduct night operations with the two battalions in this AO.

Units in the southern portion of AO Rechts faced a larger attack and the line there has moved back to Prummern as the main fighting position which is in danger of being cut off from units that have been pressed against the Wurm. Several uncommitted companies in Suggarth will be ordered to reenforce the Prummern area and prevent the allies from attempting to cross the Wurm.

German lines are holding steady for the most part. None of the infantry units have been issued orders so they are holding fortifications or retreating as if told to defend in situ.

By 0700 on D2 CA-B should be underway. I have shifted this planned attack south. Originally I planned to have the attack sweep north around BP Kreis. Now CA-B assigned units will attack down the major north-south highway towards Geilenkirchen and attempt to flank the Allied units approaching the city. If the overnight movements into BP Kreis are not successful, CA-B may be temporarily refocused on the objective towns there.

CA-A should start along with CA-B. These units will quickly go through AO Rechts and aim directly for BP Quadrat. Hopefully the Allies wear themselves out and are surprised by fresh German reinforcements.

104 Regt will remain a strategic reserve when they arrive and may be committed to the fight overnight to relieve exhausted units.

Heading back to the command tent. I'll see you at 0700 sharp.
